Everyone knows Facebook. Everyone has heard of Social Networking. And, so everyone is thinking that Facebook is the preeminent Social Networking site. And, up till very recently, it has been. All that has now changed …

TWITTER IS THE NEW KING OF SOCIAL NETWORKING

Something new has just happened. Twitter has taken over. Twitter is the new king of Social Networking. There are two proofs.

PROOF #1 THAT TWITTER IS KING

A recent cover article in Fast Company Magazine was about how one young man is considered responsible for the success of now-president Barack Obama’s presidential election campaign. How did one man do this? Yes, through Twitter. For the very first time in history, Social Networking was the key ingredient that thrust Obama into the lead. How did he beat Hillary Clinton? How did he then beat John McCain? Using Twitter. He has millions of followers on Twitter. He can instantly communicate with all millions of them totally effortlessly and totally free of any cost and in a New Age and thrilling way. He simply types 140 characters (like one short sentence) and the message is sent around the country and around the world.

PROOF #2 THAT TWITTER IS KING

Early 2008, Twitter had half a million followers.

Early 2009, Twitter had 7 million followers.

This pace is a 14-fold increase in one year! Can you imagine such an increase? If you, for example, earn $100,000 a year, then a 14-fold increase would mean that in one year you’d be earning $1.4 million dollars a year. A 14-fold increase is equivalent to 1400%. What company, what country, what person, what anything is growing at 1400%. This is a phenomenon.

At this rate, Twitter will have 100 million followers by early 2010.

No other website has ever grown so fast, so huge. Twitter is taking over. Twitter will well surpass Facebook and every other social networking site. It is the new King.

HOW DO I GET IN TO TWITTER?

The easiest way is to go to the Twitter.com website and sign up. It’s totally easy and fast to open an account. And, of course, it is free. Then you need to follow someone. To help you get started, click on FIND PEOPLE in the top right-hand corner. Into the search box, type your friend’s name (to see if your friend is on Twitter) or the name of someone you respect or you could even type in my name as I am for sure on Twitter. As soon as you find someone, click on the FOLLOW button. Now you are following one person. You are in the game. Now, find and follow others you know and soon enough others will begin following you. It’s fun and easy.

Get into it. Twitter is the new King.

It is said that today, one is as successful as his contacts. Networking is the new buzzword. Everyone from marketers to Internet users want to use the new powerhouse, the Internet, to improve their networking. Move over pubs and discotheques, lounges and clubs, social networking sites are the new happening places. A person’s success is measured in terms of his Twitter followers and contacts in Facebook. To find new followers and attract them to your Twitter page, some must-have items are Twitter follow Buttons and badges.

Before we go into further detail, let us understand the phenomenon of Twitter and how it may be useful not only to individuals but also to corporate houses. Twitter is a micro-blogging tool where the number of characters per update is limited to about 140 per entry. A cross between a blog and instant messaging, it is easy to update entries as messages are short and do not take long to plan and compose (as in a blog post). CEOs can use it to share thoughts when they don’t have time for lengthy communication, the PR department can use it for customer relations, the marketing department uses it for promotions and friends use it simply to keep in touch. Twitter follow buttons make the process more attractive and appealing for all.

An attractive Twitter follow button can be used to leverage online presence of the same user, such as blogs, websites and social networking accounts. So, while one follow button may lead to a personal blog, another may offer special discount coupons for a product, and still another may lead to customer feedback blog postings highlighting the benefits of a product. These buttons offered by different websites come in attractive designs and colors that users find engaging. Some Follow Buttons are animated as well. This increases the effect multifold.

Twitter is the latest marketing tool for corporate houses and marketers, especially in the USA. Today, large companies such as Dell are using Twitter accounts for customer relations and product promotions. Twitter follow buttons are being innovatively used to distribute product coupons and promotional offers, announce sales and deals and pass on information to the target group. Also, companies are using Twitter to monitor their brand and stay in touch with consumers.

When attending events or conferences, live updates on Twitter are a common practice of users. Twitter follow buttons specially designed and incorporated for the purpose are always a hit with everybody. Twitter also provides an easy way to post links to blogs, news articles and other information on the Internet. These posts provide links to blogs and promotional websites, webinars and interesting news.

Theme pages in addition to buttons increase the appeal of the page. For example, during Christmas, a snowy page featuring a Christmas tree with Santa Twitter Follow buttons that lead to special offers, holiday packages and gift ideas has brought in great business for many companies, last year.

Similar innovative uses of Follow buttons are constantly being incorporated by individuals and corporate houses to maximize the exposure from their Twitter accounts. Why lag behind with a dowdy Twitter page? Increase its appeal with your specific Twitter Follow buttons.

If you haven’t heard of Twitter you should. I know Twitter is popular on the west coast, but haven’t reach mainstream yet.

But the reasons why Twitter will be the next big thing is the same reasons why anything becomes popular.

Here’s the top 5 reasons.

1) It is easy to use. Nothing complicated ever became popular. At least not until it became easy to use.

Twitter is very easy to use. All you basically have to do is, tell it “What You Are Doing?”

2) Texting is very popular. Are you around young people? Young people barely use the phone anymore.

Cell phones are so, 2000….

These days the mobile communication of choice is texting.

The same reasons why texting is popular so will twitter. Twitter is basically the online version of texting.

3) Highly adaptable. Why is RSS so popular? Because of it’s simple context and it’s adaptability.

These days RSS is used for everything. From Podcasts, to newsfeeds… to video feeds, to friend feeds.

To stream flickr pictures, web blogs and everything in between. It is very adaptable.

This is the same reason Twitter will be popular. It could be used for anything. It is very simple, therefore it could be used for multiple purposes.

4) People are nosy… Yes, people always what to know what other people are doing.

There are people who go on AIM (aol instant messenger) just to read people’s “Away Messages”.

That’s right, they go onto a communication platform, not to communicate, but to just read what other people are doing.

Twitter is basically AIM away messages… it’s what people want, stripped of the non-essential stuff.

5) Twitter will connect people. A weird phenomenon on Twitter is, special groups dedicated to a particular purpose forming on Twitter.

People join the group, and follow one another.

These days when one works in lonely cubicles or home offices, it’s nice to connect to other people.

I read recently that Twitter now has 10 million people using it worldwide. It is one of the fastest growing social networks today and is starting to have an enormous impact on how internet marketers are networking and doing business online. There are many celebrities also using Twitter and they have a huge following amongst their fans.

So what exactly is Twitter?

Twitter is a social media service that describes itself as “a way for people to connect through a quick exchange of ideas”. The messages are referred to as tweets and they cannot be longer than 140 characters maximum and you can basically discuss anything that enters your mind. All the conversations start with the phrase “what are you doing”? But your messages don’t need to be only about what you are doing.

The messages that appear on Twitter can be seen by anyone who visits your page. Anybody who follows you will be able to read the messages you post. When they log into their own page, anything that you might have to say will show up there as a tweet.

You can also send private messages to people on Twitter who have chosen to follow you, and this is quite a useful tool for anyone involved in an internet based business.

The big advantage with a social network service like Twitter is that you can very quickly build up a network of contacts, and you can keep them up to date on all your business activities. You can post information that can be helpful to others and keep people entertained with any insights or tips you may have. If you want to get more visitors to your blog, you can post the links to your articles on Twitter. In fact whenever you update your blog you can automatically send a message to your Twitter followers that there is a new blog post for them to read.

An important point to remember though is that Twitter is actually a social media site, so don’t go overboard with self promotion. Just keep in mind that people apart from promoting their internet businesses are there to make friends and chat to others within the Twitter community.

If you spend too much time on self promotion you will very quickly lose whatever following you have built up.

It is very quick and easy to sign up for a Twitter account, all you need to do is log in to twitter.com, click on the Get Started – All you are required to do is complete the form online. Then just click on create my account and you are ready to begin tweeting.

Initially I would suggest that you begin building your network by finding Twitter users that you can follow. There is a “find people” button, click on that and you will be able to run a search for anyone that you know or may want to follow.

When you find someone you would like to follow, simply click on their name or avatar and click the “follow” button that will appear on the next page.

Many of the people who you choose to follow, will return the compliment and follow you back and before you know it you will have built up a list of followers. So the more people you follow the bigger and faster your network will grow. One point to remember is that you cannot add more than 200 new followers to your network in a day. If you want to have more than 2000 people following you, you will need to follow at least 2000 as well.

It is important to observe the rules listed above and as long as you do, you can build a large network of followers. But break the rules and you will be banned by Twitter. Twitter is a social networking site, but it is a great way to build your business as well.

The ultimate goal when using Twitter is to network, and to do that, you have to begin by finding people to follow. It’s a good idea to build a list of followers that are within your industry’s target audience, it is beneficial to add Twitter users with outside interests to your list as well who might add some variety to your network.

Twitter isn’t just a place to update what time you brushed your teeth or what you thought of today’s cloudy weather. It is much more powerful than that, especially when you’re following a network of people in your industry. Twitter allows you to connect with your peers and get new ideas, start joint ventures, and other deals that may not have been able to materialize in other typical business activities.

Aside from the amazing business opportunites that often arise, Twitter also allows you to simply “vibe” with your peers and those in the same industry that understand everything you’re passionate about as well as the trouble you may be having. What would once be limited to a very small network of people “at the office”, can now virtually be thousands of people who connect with you on several levels. The support that you can get out of that connection is priceless.

Sounds, good, right? But how do you go about finding these people to connect with?

Well, there is more than one way to find followers on Twitter. Here are a few:

Choose from “Everyone”
When you’re on your main home page, you can click the link on the right column that reads "Everyone". This will literally show you tweets from everyone on Twitter. Grab yourself a cup of joe and scroll through until you see something that catches your attention. Click their name to see more of their tweets, and if you like them, follow!

Find People!
There’s actually a button at the top of the twitter home page that allows you to search by people’s name. This is great for whipping through a list of people you already know to see if their on twitter, either by their real name, or by a username you know they typically use.

Other Networks
If you have email contact lists on any of the major accounts online (Gmail, MSN, etc.) then you can choose “Find On Other Networks” on your twitter home page as well, and it will allow you to import any contacts you may have that are in the Twitter system.

Suggested Users
Twitter has a “suggested users” link as well, but all too often it’ll just show you celebrity names and other people that won’t actually do much for your business. However, if you’re a huge fan of Brad and Angelina, then you might still want to check out this feature.

There are still a few other obvious ways such as using the Search function that will show you results based on name ot topic that you enter.

You can find someone with a list of the same type of people you’re looking to follow. On their home page, you’ll see a link on the right that reads “following”. Click that and you’ll see their whole list. Start browsing!

Of course, you will also be following people who have chosen to follow you. It’s a good idea to take a look at their latest 10-20 tweets before you actually click the follow button though, because you do want to have at least something in common. Some people choose to simply make it a rule to follow whoever follows them. It’s up to you. Either way, start building your followers!

What’s up tweeples? Anyone who wants to follow me, please do so, and send me a quick tweet on Twitter.

If that makes absolutely no sense to you, then read on, because you need to get involved and grasp the power of one of the hottest (if not THE hottest!) marketing tools available on the Internet right now! That tool is known as Twitter.

Twitter is a website that allows you to keep in contact with people in an ultra-compact way known as micro-blogging. The term fits Twitter perfectly as each post made from a user is limited to a maximum of only 140 characters. Now, when you first get a glimpse of the size of a 140 character message, the first thing that comes to mind is probably something like “what could I possibly say of any value that would fit into that amount of space?”. However, once you start particpating and get the hang of things, you’ll quickly be amazed at how informational a “tweet” can be.

A “tweet” is the user’s term that replaces what you would typicall refer to as a “post”, or a “message”. In fact, many Twitter users also refer to themselves and others as tweeples.

The Basics Of Twitter

Twitter is a social platform that allows users to share their tweets with each other in real time similar to a chat program. There are millions of people currently signed up with profiles on Twitter and the messages range from every end of the spectrum from life’s little chit chats, to marketing tips and business deals.

When you create a profile on twitter, you get to choose a unique user name, and your page has a bio section that also allows you to upload a photo, create a short bio, and link to a url of your choosing.

This same profile page has a link that reads “follow”. This is where the magic happens. When you’re using Twitter, you only see updates (tweets) from people that you choose to “follow”.

As your list of followers grow, so does your network capabilities as you can reach all those people who have chosen to follow you, instantly. The power lies in your network. As you begin to capture the interest of your followers, you have the potential to reach their network of followers as well…and so on…and so on.

Twitter is free, it’s fun, it’s great for business networking. The only possible bad side is that it takes discipline to not get addicted and spend too much time on it when you should be working on other things, so maybe you better stick to a rigid schedule with your “tweet blogging”!
