Messaging services are now commonplace, but Twitter has developed into a world-wide phenomenon. I am not here to discuss Twitter’s past, but how you can use it in the future: not only to communicate with people, but to make money and turn it into a marketing tool more effective than any that have gone before.

I fully understand how Google works (as well as anybody who is not employed by Google can), and Twitter is Google bait! This will only last for a short time, and even if you only have a blog that you want to promote you must learn how to use Twitter to promote it. If you have a Squidoo lens, just the same: Twitter can be use to give you visitors.

So how is that? The question you have to answer yourself when you tweet on Twitter is who will see it? A tweet is not a web page, and is not listed on a search engine. It isn’t an email, or any other direct means of communication. The only people that will come across those short messages you send are those that are ‘following’ you. To do that, they must deliberately click a link so that they do so. Why should they?

Many newbies to Twitter make their tweets and they go nowhere because they don’t have any followers. Imagine if you could choose your own followers. I am not saying that Britney would follow you because if you check out Britney’s link you will see no tweets except hers and her manager’s and agent’s. She uses Twitter as an advertising medium, and follows nobody.

You can use Twitter that way too, and can advertise products and web pages but refuse followers – you will then make nothing. It is very important that learn how to get followers, but the followers that suit you. There are ways to achieve that, and also ways to choose the Tweeters that you want to follow. If you get it right, one or both of two things can happen:

1. You can make a lot of friends, even if you have no desire to use Tweeter to make money. 2. You can use Tweeter make a lot of money, even if you have no desire to make friends.

What you should be aiming for is a combination of each, and if you know how to do it, then you can, to the advantage of you and your friends on Tweeter. They need a service or have a problem to be solved, and you can provide either or both. But how do you get together?

By Tweets of course! But you have to get them following you, and while you know how to register with Tweeter and make your tweets, who is reading them? Nobody! However, let’s take just one social networking site – Facebook. As with most, you can have your tweets posted on your wall in Facebook, so that all of your friends can see them. That is just one simple way of advertising yourself totally free of charge.

Solve that problem and you will be made. You will be able to put everything you learn into practice and will be able to make money and promote your site by Tweeting on Twitter! Think of all the social networking sites out there on which you can make your tweets visible, even to non tweeters? At one time it was tag and ping – that is old hat now.

This makes it a lot easier now you can pre-tweet the night before and set all of them up to post at the times you would like!

You can get some free info online on how to use Twitter, but it’s all very basic and you don’t learn a great deal – not any more than anybody else. I went the third way and never looked back. So, once again, here’s a quick recap of how you can stage your own Peaceful (or Hostile) Take Over using Twitter.

In previous posts, I’ve shared with you simple ways to do steps 1 through 3. In the last post I even added a dimension to step #3 which showed you how to put all that retweeting on HYPERDRIVE by providing things of value to your growing list of followers. But by now, you must be thinking that something is missing. Especially if you’re in business you may, at this point, be wondering if this is just a lot of wheel spinning and wasting your time talking to people.

You’re asking “But, Harris, HOW do I make money?”

Which of course brings me to today’s post. If you take the actions that I’ve been telling you about throughout this process you’ll certainly create a growing list of followers… most likely into the thousands and beyond but up till now we haven’t talked about how to tie it all together and start making some money with this newfound connectedness.

Here’s the thing. You CAN make money using Twitter and you WILL. But it’s got to be a carefully planned process because you can easily ruin your entire pot of soup you’ve been so lovingly stirring and adding ingredients to all this time. If you just start throwing tons of pepper into the pot now, you’ll just ruin all your efforts.

So, let’s unwrap this a bit. What is Twitter?

Twitter is really a free-for-all, information gathering, networking, and socializing all going on at the same time, real time, all the time. It’s kind of like being in the middle of a crowded street in New York at rush hour.

People are streaming in all directions with a phone in one ear, a blackberry in their hand AND trying to hail a cab with the other. It’s HARD to get and keep people’s attention, and if you smack them in the head with a bowl of soup from your cart when they’re not looking they’re going to disengage… just like that. Poof. Relationship damaged. Do it a couple more times and Kablooey. Relationship vanished.

Not only that, they’ll probably be pissed you spilled soup on them.

There’s a couple things to consider here, but the main idea is NOT to try and make money ON Twitter directly. It doesn’t really work. Nothing will get people to unfollow you faster. What you want to do is have a ratio of no more than 5-10% of your tweets even trying to promote anything (whether it’s your product or a product you’re promoting as an affiliate.

What we’ve been doing over the past couple of posts is gently stirring that pot of soup. Building relationships, getting people to click, getting people to retweet. Letting those aromas fill the kitchen and start making your followers hungry for more. You’ve got them retweeting your messages, clicking your links and now you’re going to want to entice them even more by dropping a few breadcrumbs that lead them to your steaming bowl of luscious soup.

The key is to start interspersing all this great value with things of your own. Links that lead your hungry followers to even MORE good value and FREE content that you provide, luring them off of Twitter and onto your own site. If you don’t have you own site yet, there are certainly plenty of affiliate products you can promote. But I still don’t recommend sending people straight to a sales page. You have to lull your followers away from the noisy street and into your tasty cafe. The content can be many things: teleseminars, webinars even a live Ustream show… the possibilities are truly endless as long as you think “VALUE FIRST”.

Once you get their attention directed at you and you alone THEN it’s time to show them your real wares and convince them to buy your soup, so to speak. You can even give them a taste of your soup to really get them hooked before asking them to buy the entire bowl. By that time they’re hungry and they’re not distracted by all the noise going on around them.

So, that’s the big Twitter secret. To make money on Twitter, you have to get people AWAY from Twitter!

4. Set the program to add 100 friends daily. More than that and you may
end up finding your account vaporized.
5. Set the program to pause 2 seconds in between adding. This mitigates

for targets then FOLLOWS the matching targets. By reciprocity, people you
follow, may follow you back and et voila! They become your followers.

I’ve experimente with one twitter account and its grown from zero to three

Oh- one caveat- some people the program adds may not be people. They’re bots.
Zombies. Twitter marketing androids. Meaning that they may be pure marketing
vehicles for other SEO and SEM specialists as well. If you find that some
people you added are mere robots, you can unfollow them. They’re useless to
your camplaigns because they’ll probably ignore your tweets. Worse, they may
even bombard you with advertising tweets!

This program is so good and so handy that I’ve notice people on eBay and
DigitalPoint selling clones of the program. The lowest priced one was $19,
and the priciest was $97. They promise the moon and stars, vowing that a
tidal wave of traffic will come in. Not true. While you can use the Twitter
Friend Adder to get the word out, abuse of it by means of blasting nothing
but ads will get people annoyed. You’ll be UNFOLLOWED.

My advice? Send marketing spiels once a week. The rest of the week, send em
the good stuff. Like what you ate for dinner.

Add your Twitter name in your forum signature so that people who love what you have to say can follow you and get even more great advice from you, as well as maybe buy your Beatles related goods.

2) Join MrTweet.com and follow the instructions to grab a hoard of Beatles lovin Tweeters.

3) Search on the Twitter site itself for Beatles related words and phrases, then follow those people with your own account. Most of the time they will follow you back too.

4) Enter your target topic in between quotes at Google.com like this…

Remember to add site:twitter.com after your keyword in quotes then hit search.

So my answer is YES! Even though you may have less followers right now than a Donkey with gas, using these techniques, even you as a regular Joe could become a power Twitter user too!

If you do a search on making money with twitter, you will come up with a range of ideas including Twitter applications with some being a touch more novel than others. But what if you are thinking about making big money with Twitter, do you really think something like a limited 140 character blog post or tweet could ever achieve this?

The answer lies with a system developed by a mild mannered geek by the name of Bill Crosby, no not the actor but the professional monopoly playing Bill Crosby. Well at least that is what his Twitter profile claims.

I met up with Bill’s system only a few days ago and when my Twitter account of about 12 months of age, had about 100 followers and about 100 people were following me. You know how it goes, you get an email from Twitter that tells you someone new is following you and think OK, they seem nice and interesting so I will follow them back. Hey every now and then you tweet about something and so it goes. Twittering in a fairly aimless manner wondering how all these people you are following have managed to get thousands of followers while you only have not much more than a few dozen. You begin to wonder, what are they all doing that I am not?

I happened to find a link in one of the direct messages from someone I had connected with on Twitter that had a small link to Bills website, where I saw his Twitter auto pilot video. It all sounded too good to be true, automatic Twitter, set it and forget it. Wow I thought, finally someone speaking my language. An automated Twitter system that would find highly targeted Twitter friends, follow them, have them follow me back and the best part was yet to come. Automated, on topic highly targeted updates. I thought, no way, this can’t happen. How? Well it is true. I will tell where I am up to now, just 4 short days later.

As of July 1, I now have 1,268 people I am following with 654 people following me. I have produced 122 updates and the best part is, no sooner had I set this up and running did I have a new business enquiry from someone interested in my services. They had clicked my website link, browsed my pages and decided to contact me with the prospect of buying from me. Wow again! I couldn’t believe it, less then one hour after setting Twitter on to auto pilot did I have a meaningful contact from a potential customer. What they were interested in was a product worth about $4,000 to my business.

I had been on Twitter for over a year and not much had happened, as I wasn’t sure what to do with it. As I said in the beginning, Twitter seemed the stupidest idea I had ever come across so I did nothing with it.

The automated Twitter system that Bill showed me how to do, only took an hour to set up. His instructions where easy to follow video guides, with a backup checklist. Everything is covered, although a couple of the sites had been updated since he made the video back in April. Still I managed to figure things out and kept going to great success. He claims to be able to get you about 15,000 followers in 90 days and with 500 extra followers I have gotten in just 4 days I am set to end up with about 45,000 followers by the end of 90 days.

Now the really cool thing is, no matter if you haven’t got a business to promote, you can make money by sharing the idea with other people who follow you. Bill makes this really easy to do. I will say that it does require you doing a little maintenance (takes about 2 minutes) a couple of times a week but it seems that this a fair trade for something so time saving.
